I take advantage of a lot of the kindle freebies that come out. I was in the mood to listen to a book and what I wanted to listen to from my public library was not available. So I went on Amazon to see what ebooks I had that could be changed to a 'audio' book for a reasonable price. $1.99 is my limit. Ha ha. Anyways, I was surprised by this book as I didn't even know what this book was going to be about. It kept my attention but at the same time disappointed me. Hence the 4 stars instead of 5. I thought about dropping it to 3. The story had two different time periods. Present and 1500's. I appreciated how the narrator changed her voice to signify the difference. This is a historical fiction book with a touch of paranormal. It is book 1 of a series but I couldn't find any information when the 2nd book will come out. So of course the author leaves you hanging in the end so that you stay interested for the 2nd one. If you decide to read it instead of listening I believe its about 300 pages and I know at one time it was free. I don't know if it still is.
This book had two different stories as the title said. I am not sure which story I liked better. But the Wanted Woman story to me had more action. It was quicker in that aspect though the romance took longer only because the two main characters were mostly apart throughout the story. Rescue at Cardwell Ranch reminded me of a episode of Criminal Minds. These are pretty quick reads if you sit down and stay focused. It just took me longer because I was reading this at bed time. I got this copy through Netgalley. This book is by BJ Daniels and published by Harlequin. This came out on May 27, 2014. So if you like a little mystery and romance these stories are spot on in giving that.
I am looking forward to watching this. I just started listening to the book.
"You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them."
-- Ray Bradbury
By no means do I see myself as a professional book blogger or you tuber. But I thought I'd share the books I read in May. I even wrote out reviews for books I have read in previous posts. I am not tech savy in that aspect so I don't know how to link them here. Anyways I read 7 books this month.
I still can't pull up Honey Bee's Adventures at Wilderness Pond. So the name of the book will have to do verses the pretty cover.
This is the pov of Willem. It's not necessarily a love story but a story about relationships and finding one self. At first, it started slow for me. But near the last part of the book for me everything came together and I loved how it ended. Just don't go into this book thinking it will be a epic love story. It is a love of a mother and son, finding acceptance there. Finally loving yourself and figuring out what it is you want out of life. I know there has been mixed reviews about this book but I wholeheartedly think it is worth a read!
I have not really been exposed to comics or graphic novels. But I thought I'd take a chance and read this. I got it from Netgalley and it was a arc. Published by Diamond Book Distributors. It comes out today May 27th, 2014. It was only 128 pages or so. It was a quick read. The only annoying thing for me was trying to read it on Adobe Digital Edition. It seemed sluggish every time I tried to page down.
This is a story about Lewis and Clark and what it would be like if they had encountered monsters instead of what the history books tell you. When I first met the plant monsters it made me think of the Walking Dead comics and the zombies there. I was a little confused why there were 2 different set of monsters. The other being these buffalo men monsters. I was trying to figure out why the story had that than it dawned on me that these were the kind of'exotic' creatures that Lewis and Clark were tasked to discovered by President Jefferson. The comic did show that Lewis was keeping a journal of what was going on. They didn't really talk about Sacajawea. But I did enjoy the little they shared in this volume. I do realize there are at least 5 more volumes. I just read the first one as that is what was given to me.
I don't know if I would continue reading this as it was hard to get into this world. But it may very well be because I haven't had a lot of experience in reading this genre.
This book was so cute. I was able to get this from Netgalley as a immediate read. It is written and illustrated by Cathryn Carman Davis. Published by Sweet Dreams Factory LLC.
This book would be excellent for those that like to read to young children. Specifically to those in preschool/kindergarten. Its a story about a bee who didn't want to be with her group anymore and wanted to see what the rest of the world had to offer. She comes across many enemies but somehow is able to escape her demise often. It is written in a rhyming voice so that is what I mean by it being a perfect read aloud.
The pictures were very colorful. I only had the electronic version but I can see how appealing this would be as a hard bound picture book for a young child to pick up over and over again.
You will be able to get this book a month from now on June 26th, 2014. I think it is worth picking up for those that have young children or work with them.
*I was not able to bring the book title up to show the book cover *
| I got this from Netgalley and Diamond Book Distributors. It will be available to the public on June 17th 2014. Since today was free comic day I was in the mood to read something light. This is the perfect comic for a late elementary/middle schooler to read. It is only 88 pages long so it was a quick read. There were 4 stories or so all based on friendship. I picked this up because I remembered liking My Little Pony when I was a kid and wanted to see what I thought as an adult. I found it enjoyable as a adult and didn't find it too cutesy. |
*In looking at my reading challenge shelf I didn't see this book listed or the review. If you have seen this before I apologize for the double posting. *
I love this book. Its so easy to get lost in this world. It reminds me why I love fantasy so much. I don't want to spoil anything but this book is well worth the read. I hope to finish this in a day or 2.
"I'm sorry it took me so long to see you, Alina. But I see you now."
This book was fantastic. It left me speechless. I am so glad that this is a series. I can't wait to read the 2nd book.
My rambling thoughts as I read this book. I actually finished this book sooner than I thought I would. Who needs sleep? Seriously though if you like high fantasy check this out. Its listed as Young Adult but even if that's not a genre you read you will not be disappointed. And as I said this is a series. So get to reading!
